World Tourism Day celebrations

Article by Ecotourism Kenya

This year, the United Nations World Tourism Day (WTD) celebrations will be held in Ghana on the 27th September 2009 which will also mark the 30th anniversary since the event began.  The theme of this year’s event is ‘Tourism – Celebrating Diversity’. As a UNWTO member state, Kenya through the Ministry of Tourism in conjunction with Ecotourism Kenya and other public and private stakeholders in the tourism sector will hold week long celebrations from the 23rd September 2009 that will involve a series of workshops in major towns along the Western Tourism Circuit with a stop over in Naivasha, Nakuru and Kisumu.  The climax of the celebrations which will also mark the World Tourism Day will be at Kakamega on Sunday 27th September 2009.   During the event, Ecotourism Kenya will take advantage of this opportunity to increase the awareness on our activities and program areas as we raise the profile of responsible tourism around the country.
