Ecotourism Kenya and KATO intends to build capacity of tour operators and community based organisations for export marketing and tourism sustainability best practices ahead of World Travel Market (WTM) in November this year. In this regard, we shall be conducting a 3- Day kick-off Training from 9th to 11th April in Nairobi to mark the start of the Green Tour Kenya project’s 3-year Export Coaching Program. This shall be done together with other international implementation partners.

The Export Coaching Program has 25+ selected companies comprising of Tour Operators and Community Based Tourism Organizations. This program is intended to help them to increase their general business capacity and access to international markets. They shall further be supported to incorporate Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) approaches in their practices as part of their role in greening the Kenyan tourism supply chain.

Through the Export Coaching Program, the selected companies shall be able to:

  • Develop Export Marketing Plans (EMP), with support of professional business coaches – local and international.
  • Take part in a 2-day Internet and e-marketing training where they shall be advised on how to obtain more business through their websites.
  • Obtain training on Human Resource Management, Environmental & Social sustainability of their companies.
  • Acquire support in related product development and marketing.

In addition to all the above mentioned benefits of the program, some of the selected participants have also had an opportunity of registering as members of the UN International Trade Centre (ITC) “She Trades” Programme which promotes women businesses.

GREENTOUR is a 2nd Phase Switch Africa Green project being implemented in Kenya with European Union funding for the period 2018-2021 with a principle aim of promoting sustainability in tourism. We at Ecotourism Kenya are delighted to be part of this export coaching program and excited to work with sustainability committed companies focused to improve the Kenyan tourism supply chain.
