WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY JUNE 2018

 

World Environment Day is an annual event celebrated every 5th of June. It is the United Nation’s medium for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. The event raises awareness and urges governments, communities and individuals to come together and explore sustainable alternatives and urgently reduce the production and use of plastic that pollutes oceans, damages marine life and threatens human health.

This year’s event will be held at Ganzi area in Ukunda, Msambweni in the South Coast Region.  The region is located along the shores of the Indian Ocean and is experiencing challenges on solid waste management. This year’s event is guided by the theme, ‘beat plastic pollution’ and the slogan ‘Greening the blue’.
